Our Countertop Process

From material selection through installation, each step of our process is designed to ensure accurate fabrication and a proper fit. Understanding the sequence helps you prepare and keeps your project moving smoothly.

Our Order Process

Selecting your surface
Whether you’re working with a designer, contractor, or managing the project yourself, one of the first steps is selecting the right material. Rumford Stone works with natural stone, quartz, quartzite, porcelain, and specialty surfaces. At our showroom, you can review full slabs to compare color and pattern. Our team will guide your selection and review key details before fabrication begins.

Estimate

Once you have selected your material, Rumford Stone will prepare an estimate based on the measurements provided by you, your contractor, or kitchen designer. The estimate reflects the selected surface, edge details, and overall layout. Reviewing this information early helps confirm project scope and ensures the next steps in templating and fabrication move forward without delays.

Visiting the Slab Yard

The Rumford Stone Design Center features a large slab yard with a wide selection of full-size granite, quartz, and porcelain slabs. Slab yard visits are scheduled through our team to ensure materials are available and your project details can be reviewed during your visit. While quartz offers consistent patterning, natural stone varies from slab to slab. Viewing slabs in person allows you to compare options and select material suited to your project. Remnant pieces are also available for smaller applications such as bathroom vanities.

Stone Inspection and Approval

Once your estimate is approved, our team will contact you to schedule your project and order material if needed. Your stone will be available for inspection at our warehouse, where you can review the material and ask questions about layout. For materials with pronounced veining, we recommend our digital layout service. This step allows you to preview the project and helps align veining across seams and surfaces as closely as possible.

Templating / Field Measurements

Once your cabinets are installed or existing countertops are removed, we will schedule a templating appointment at your home. Using a digital measuring system, our technician records precise dimensions to ensure an accurate fit during fabrication and installation. We ask that you be present to review layout details and confirm sink, faucet, and appliance information before production begins.

Stone Inspection and Approval

Once your estimate is formally approved, our customer service team will contact you to schedule out your project and order the material if it is not already on hand. Your stone will be available for inspection at our warehouse where you’ll have the opportunity to view the material and ask questions about how the stone will be laid out for your project. If you’d like, we can arrange to perform a Slabsmith® digital layout of your project so that you can envision how the final project will look when completed.

Fabrication

With templating complete, sink, faucet, appliance selection and any action items verified, we are now ready, we are now ready to begin production on your approved slab. Using state-of-the-art machines for cutting, milling, and polishing, we complete the final fabrication of your new countertop. Learn about our expert countertop fabrication.

Installation

On the day of your installation, our truck will need to get as close as possible to the point of entry for your countertops. We will need clear, unobstructed access to the work area. If noted at template, appliances must be removed and out of the work area to avoid any damage. For safety reasons, pets and small children must be clear of the work area until work is completed.

A Clear Path to Installation

Careful planning, precise templating, and coordinated scheduling support a successful installation. Our team guides you through each stage so your countertop is fabricated and installed as intended.
